In September, the troop spent the weekend at one of the best hiking areas in the East, the Red River Gorge. Most of our older scouts backpacked on Saturday and Sunday, completing a 15 mile trek along the Sheltowee Trace. The famous swinging bridge on the Sheltowee was quite exciting to cross (below right). It was a vigorous hike, and the guys took every chance they could to rest.
After rejoining the first year scouts, they visited the Nada Tunnel (below), a former railroad tunnel that now serves as a rather long, one-lane (but two-way) car tunnel.
